The amount provided in the Estimates has proved insufficient.

The increased expenditure is due to an increase in the number of patients treated. To the end of October 3301 cases were dealt with as compared with 2544 for the same period in 1933.

It is estimated that another $1,000 will be required. A supplemen- tary vote for this sum is requested.

The above is to met from savings under Provisions for Patients (1934 Estimates page 55 sub-head 19).

The amount provided in the Estimates has proved insufficient. The increase is mainly due to the following new additions to the department during the current year :-

Tsan Yuk Hospital, Kowloon Hospital C. Block, Lady Ho Tung Infant Welfare Centre, Kowloon Infant Welfare Centre, Sai Kung and Tai O Dispensaries.

The balance at the end of October was $5,222 and this is just sufficient to cover expenditure incurred to end of that month. A further sum of $10,000 is needed to cover expenditure for November and December. A supplementary vote for this amount is requested.

The above is to be met from savings under Provisions for Patients (1934 Estimates page 55 sub-head 19).

123.-7, District Office, South :-5, Rent of Office

Provision made in Estimates (page 21 sub-head 5) ...$ 8,400

Owing to delay in submitting the rent account for December, 1933, the rent of $700 for that month was paid in January, 1934, out of 1934 funds thus leaving only $7,700 for 1934. A supplementary vote for $700 is now requested.

Portions of Kowloon and Mongkok Fire Stations have been turned into Quarters for European and Chinese Officers of the Brigade. More gas and electric current have been consumed than was estimated, and the vote of $6,300 is almost exhausted.
